Dear Michael, For the most part I enjoy and identify with many of your columns, as we are neighorbors with you and your family both upstate and downstate. I understand that glibness is part of your writing style for this column, but when it hits home, I don't know if everything is equally treated lightly or if you just don't realize how others feel if they're different from you... Your new position as chief marriage officer in Livingston is not to be taken lightly, but neither is the injustice that same sex marriages are "illegal" in New York and you had to formally agree not to do them. There are hundreds of state and national protections I and all other same sex partners are not entitled to. My partner of twenty five years, with whom I'm quite compatible, and I, were married in New Paltz in 2004 as were many other couples. Our weddings were all annulled by NYS. I hope that at least you thought about it for a moment, that if sex marriages are not legal in New York, we cannot enjoy all the protections and priveleges of married citizens and tax payers like yourself. In other words, if you thought about this before you quickly agreed, it would have been encouraging if you had so noted in your column. If it didn't cross your mind, then there is no justice and there is no peace. Lauren
